I sat on the phone over an hour with Byron Harris and just talked about how Stay Down was originally started and I was so taken back from the story. His humbleness and optimistic persona just shine through his voice and choice of words. In pursuit of a higher elevation for his rap career Byron felt he had reached his peak in Dallas. After literally selling as his furniture in his apartment he realized now was the time and Atlanta, Georgia was the place. The move would come with much more than he probably imagined at the time. Byron moved to Atlanta and put his foot into the ground gaining a heavy support and grinding for what would be his push for more. A song by the name of “Stay Down” would eventually help him win a major open mic battle and again help align the stars for a successful endeavor. Life would have its way and eventually Byron would move back to Dallas to make 100 Stay Down t-shirts and thus a business and a lifestyle was born. The shirts flew from his hands and on to the backs of those heavily supporting the movement. Byron told me in his own words “I went to Atlanta as a rapper but I came back to Dallas an entrepreneur.” And that he is a businessman, an artist, a father, a leader and motivator all in one . He also mention how this saved him from himself and the dark path he was following. I listened to Byron speak about his life and the obstacles he’s overcome and his quiet yet confident demeanor were heavily felt as if I was sitting right next to him.
